So we decided to try the scanners out for ourselves and this is what we found, but first a little introduction to the LPX scanner.

There is an optional software that Roland supplies with the LPX scanner, PixForm Pro. We recommend anyone who is serious about working with scanned data to invest in this software. Otherwise the process of working with the scanned data can be tedious and frustrating.
Roland is offering Pixform Pro at a very attractive offer compared to its other version Rapidform XOR. Check out the websites for yourselves and you will see the value. Another software to consider is Geomagic. We used Geomagic software for all the models scanned and the results are shown below.
So what is our conclusion after using the LPX?
The LPX Scanner provides great details especially the LPX 1200. At a resolution of 0.1mm the details on the character models were well defined and sharp.
It is robust, easy to set up and use.
We tried scanning some mechanical parts and the results were fairly good but it required some time and more than one scan to capture different areas of the object that was missed on the 1st scan.
Yes there were holes and missing data, but that was easily solved with the use of the 3rd party software.
The Roland LPX scanner is good for objects that are cylindrical and organic in form. When you consider the resolution that you can get and the ease of use of the LPX scanner at the competitive price it is going for, it starts to make sense when you compare it with other scanners on the market.
